Signature Programs - Cardiovascular
The UT Health Science Center’s Janey Briscoe Center of Excellence in Cardiovascular Research is among the top cardiovascular research centers in the nation. The center is named for Janey Briscoe, the late wife of former Gov. Dolph Briscoe Jr.
Headed by Steven R. Bailey, M.D., professor of medicine and radiology and the Janey Briscoe Distinguished Professor of Cardiovascular Research, the center’s purpose is to develop new methods to treat America’s leading killers — heart disease and stroke.
Researchers in the Janey Briscoe Center use some of the most advanced technology and biomedical tools to examine all aspects of treating and reversing these debilitating diseases. They perform optical imaging of arteries, use nanotechnology to manufacture new implantable medical devices, and identify novel biomarkers of disease.
New developments at the Janey Briscoe Center contribute to reversing and preventing the diseases that account for 40 percent of American deaths each year.
