Supporting education and honoring selfless service

The Ruth E. Berggren, MD, Endowment for Ethics in Action will honor Dr. Berggren and celebrate her 10^th anniversary as Director of the Charles E. Cheever, Jr. Center for Medical Humanities & Ethics.

Through her leadership, we have witnessed a remarkable expansion of programs and activities that not only enhance ethics education but also impact our local and global communities.

Dr. Berggren is an outstanding mentor for a new generation of health professionals focused on compassionate care.  She has been an icon in our community and a role model for future health leaders who will serve the needs of patients regardless of their circumstances.  We thank Dr. Berggren and honor her with an endowment, named for her, that will serve to continue her legacy of “ethics in action” for years to come and support this level of education.

Funds distributed from the endowment shall be used to support “ethics in action” through educational programs and activities that are aligned with the Center’s mission, with priority given to those programs that serve to benefit vulnerable populations under the discretion of the Director. Such activities and programs include those which offer students experiential learning opportunities that reinforce a lifelong practice of service to humanity.
