Microbiology, Immunology & Molecular Genetics

The Department of Microbiology, Immunology & Molecular Genetics is the nucleus for research and education in microbiological and immunological topics at UT Health San Antonio, and provides a dynamic environment for scientific discovery and training. The fields of study include inflammatory disease, innate immunity, adaptive immunity, allergy/autoimmunity, vaccine biology, tumor immunology, bacterial, viral and fungal infections, parasitology, and microbial genetics. The mission of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology is to advance knowledge in the areas of microbial infections and vaccines, inflammation, protective immune responses, immunity and epigenetics, in order to build the knowledge necessary for therapies of the future. Both basic and translational research are of equal importance to foster discovery of biological truths and translate those discoveries into new therapeutics. The Department offers an undergraduate research program, a Master’s of Science program, and a Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences Integrated Biomedical Sciences doctoral program.
