Dr. William A. Kuebker

Dr. William Allan KuebkerDr. William A. Kuebker was a long-time faculty member and Professor Emeritus at the Dental School at the UT Health Science Center San Antonio.  Dr. Kuebker began his second career as an assistant professor in Prosthodontics, after retiring from the U.S. Air Force as a full Colonel in 1975, just 5 years after our school opened.  Throughout his time at the Dental School, he rose to the rank of full professor and served as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs from 1988 – 1995 and as Chair of the Department of Prosthodontics from 1995 – 2000.

Dr. Kuebker graduated from Northwestern Dental School in Chicago in 1956 and received his training in prosthodontics from Washington University in St. Louis.  While at Lackland Air Force Base here in San Antonio, he helped establish the advanced education program in Prosthodontics residency, that continues today.

Dr. Kuebker’sprofessional accomplishments are numerous and far surpass what many can achieve in a lifetime.  He served as a military Special Consultant in Prosthodontics to the U.S. Air Force Surgeon General from 1966 to 1973; president of, the Mu Nu Chapter of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental Society; Fellow in the American College of Dentists; Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics; charter member and president of the American College of Prosthodontics (ACP), president of the ACP Education Foundation; recipient of the ACP's President's Award in 1992 and the ACP's first Distinguished Service Award in 1994.  Dr. Kuebker served as ACP delegate to the Federation of Prosthodontics Organizations for many years, becoming FPO president in 1991-1992.  His contributions to professional service reflect his devotion to his specialty, to education, and to the betterment of dentistry.  Dr. Kuebkerwas a well-respected and prolific contributor to professional publications, wrote chapters in seven professional textbooks, and co-authored the seminal textbook, "Clinical, Removable, Partial Prosthodontics", and demonstrated professional mentorship and collegiality in helping in the succession of authorship of his scholarly work.

His colleagues throughout the U.S. have expressed their sense of loss with a sense of gratitude for having had the honor and pleasure of having worked with a man that epitomized leadership, honor, and integrity.

A great family man, Bill is survived by 3 children and 5 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.  His wife Joan, his true love and constant companion, passed away on April 16, 2012; they were married for 57 years.
