The Department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology offers a diverse array of research concentrations geared toward understanding the cellular and molecular underpinnings of human physiology. Scientists seek to understand how these factors influence whole organism physiology using a number of novel model systems and cutting edge technologies. The Department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology is renowned for its contributions in scientific areas including cardiovascular physiology, neurophysiology, genetics, psychiatric disorders, ion channel physiology and biophysics, addiction, hypertension, diabetes, and the physiological basis of aging. Using sophisticated genetic and molecular tools, scientists in the Department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology are unraveling the fundamental mechanisms that underlie tissue and cellular physiology and how these processes are compromised in injury and disease.
