Debbie Canales Yrle Distinguished Service Endowment

Thank you for your interest in supporting the Debbie Canales Yrle Distinguished Service Endowment. This endowment will support an annual award to honor and recognize a UT Health staff member who provides outstanding support to the education and research mission of the Graduate School of Biomedical Science.

Debbie Canales Yrle joined Dr. Masters’ group as an Administrative Assistant in 1993 and she served in that capacity for 13 for the 15 years that she was with UT Health San Antonio. Debbie was not only a colleague, but a friend and confidante. This role extended to everyone who ever had a problem, either personal or professional. It seemed that Debbie had a boundless capacity to absorb the tasks and issues around her, and then facilitate their performance and solution. Throughout the Department of Biochemistry and the UT Health San Antonio campus, stories are abounding about “what Debbie Yrle did for me”. Debbie was no ordinary employee just doing her job. She stayed late in the evening to accommodate Dr. Masters’ schedule and she made herself a student of every new mechanism or procedure in order to expedite the process for the laboratory and the Department of Biochemistry.  Debbie was always available and helpful whenever a problem arose with respect to processing forms or communicating within and outside the Institution and she knew precisely what to say to anyone who called or visited the laboratory and was always helpful to them. Debbie passed away unexpectedly in 2006.

In tribute to her selfless service, the Deborah Canales Yrle Distinguished Service fund was established and contributed to by friends, family and colleagues, it has since been elevated to a permanent endowment by Dr. Bettie Sue Masters to honor employees for their commitment to the mission of our University, and their loyal support to the researchers who depend on their collaboration and partnership.
