The Center for Biomedical Neuroscience is a broad, inclusive and representative organization for all neuroscientists and neuroscience-related activities at UT Health San Antonio. Its mission is to enhance and promote all teaching, research, translational and outreach activities related to neuroscience on our campus. The CBN has over 100 members, comprising preclinical and clinical scientists as well as clinical practitioners representing 5 basic science and 12 clinical departments in the Medical and Dental Schools and in the Research Imaging Institute. Neuroscience is a recognized area of research excellence at our institution, as CBN investigators represent approximately 14% of all funded investigators at the Health Science Center, yet bring in over 30% of our total NIH funding. The CBN supports the Graduate Program in Neuroscience; fosters translational research interactions through the formation of focused Research Interest Groups; funds collaborative pilot projects; sponsors an annual spring retreat and the annual Brain Bowl; hosts special lectures and guest seminars; and engages in several other enrichment, training and outreach activities in the neurosciences.
