This scholarship is an amazing opportunity to commemorate one of the reasons I went back to school for a higher degree. I am the first child on my Father's side of the family to earn a Master's degree. The ability to assist another student parent and/or guardian complete a graduate nursing program successfully, as I have, is the best way I can think to honor my father and his memory. He was born November 5, 1956 to two parents with grade school educations. He always rewarded my efforts and achievements in school and told me I got my brains from him. He had a high school education and worked as a miner. He passed away tragically February 10, 2014, during my second semester of graduate school; a very tough semester that tested my inner-personal strength and taught me true perseverance. Parents want their children to succeed in life and want their children's education to supersede their own. May the student who is awarded this scholarship persevere in school, be an example of dedication and commitment to their craft, and be successful in life.
