The Dr. Karin Barnes leadership endowment fund in Occupational Therapy (OT) supports students in the department of Occupational Therapy in the School of Health Professions with a special interest in leadership activity on a city, state and national level.
Dr. Barnes became a founding member of the Occupational Therapy education program in 1981. Her 35 years of service means she taught and mentored every graduate of the program. In addition to her commitment to teaching, she has been an unwavering leader and champion of the department. In the 10 years she served as the Chair of the department, the Occupational Therapy program grew in national prominence and she was awarded a $1.1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to support the development of OT students who are committed to serving children with disabilities.
In April 2017, Dr. Karin Barnes will be an inducted as a Fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and will be recognized for her hard work and dedication in advancing the Occupational Therapy profession.
