Robert W. Huff, M.D.

Please join us in honoring Dr. Robert W. Huff’s retirement after 47 years of dedicated service to UT Health San Antonio and the community by supporting the Maternal-Fetal Medicine program.

Dr. Robert W. Huff, a native San Antonian, received his MD in 1966 from Baylor College of Medicine and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at UT Health San Antonio in 1972. He joined our faculty after residency and at the time of his retirement was a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was a recognized UT System Distinguished Teacher and the holder of the Joseph Seitchik Chair in Reproductive Genetics.

Dr. Huff specialized in Maternal-Fetal Medicine with special interest in ultrasound, prematurity, genetics and prenatal diagnosis. He has mentored several generations of medical students, residents, fellows and faculty not to mention the technicians, nurses and staff that have received his instruction and enjoyed his good humor. His patients described him as extremely compassionate, engaging and always willing to spend time making sure he answered their questions.

Dr. Elly Xenakis was born in Bucharest, Romania, and graduated with an M.D. from the Pavia Medical School in Italy in 1983. She completed her OB/GYN residency at Brooklyn Caledonian Hospital in New York. After her residency, she pursued a Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and later joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor. She was promoted to a tenured professor in September 2007, and she held the Joseph Seitchik Chair in Reproductive Genetics and the Jane and Roland Blumberg Professorship in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Xenakis is board-certified in Maternal-Fetal Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). She has also served as an Examiner for the ABOG Oral Board Exams.

Dr. Xenakis has received multiple awards for her outstanding teaching and mentorship in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She has been recognized as one of the "Best Doctors in America," a 'Texas Super Doctor,' and one of the "Best Doctors in San Antonio." Dr. Xenakis has been actively involved in essential committees at the state, regional, and local levels in Texas, including participation in the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District Initiative and serving as a member of the Maternal Mortality and Morbidity Review Initiative. She is also involved in reviewing Level IV maternal care facilities throughout the State of Texas as a Survey Site Visitor for the Texas EMS, Trauma & Acute Care Foundation (TETAF). Dr. Xenakis plays a pivotal role in advocating for women's health care and healthy outcomes for children through her administrative leadership and collaboration with colleagues, politicians, and healthcare administrators.

Gifts in honor of Dr. Huff will perpetuate his legacy of excellence in patient care, education, research, and service to the South Texas community, while supporting Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellows in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
