In 1968, Samuel J. Friedberg, MD, and his family moved to San Antonio, where he was one of the founding faculty members of The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio until he retired in 1992. He also headed the UT Health Science Center’s Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism from 1968 – 1975. He authored or co-authored more than 40 papers, many concerning glycerol ethers and lipids, and some of his work is still referenced in important biochemistry texts. In 1992, Dr. Friedberg began a second career as an artist, working primarily in watercolors. His excellent drawing skills and feel for gesture gave his paintings great warmth.
