Sylvia Canales Ballinger was born in San Antonio on December 16, 1955, and graduated from Lee High School. She received a degree in dental hygiene from Beeville County College. After college, she returned to her hometown of San Antonio to begin her career as a dental hygienist. For over 40 years, until she passed away on May 10, 2020, she cared for generations of families, treating each as if they were her own. It was a common occurrence for her to run into current and former patients around town; she always remembered patients’ names and remembered important details about their family members and lives.
While she never had children of her own, she was a mother to numerous nieces, nephews and friends. She loved arts and crafts and never said no to a request to create something special for a wedding, baby shower or other special event. Sylvia was a selfless individual; she was always doing for others and never expected anything in return.
In the spirit of how she led her life, her family would like to establish an endowed scholarship in her name to support dental hygiene students. The Sylvia Canales Ballinger Dental Hygiene Endowed Scholarship will last in perpetuity as a reflection of her helpful spirit and dedication to the profession. We welcome your support of this special scholarship.
