Grethel Gallion Bedre Memorial
Grethel Gallion Bedre, 89, born August 22, 1925, was called home to be with our Lord and Savior on April 13, 2015. She was preceded by her husband Abe Bedre; parents Mack and Eunice Gallion; sisters Gwen (Joe) Cranford and Arvel (Gene) Dressen, and brother Mel Gallion.
After Grethel was born, her parents left Louisiana for Texas because her Dad was hired at the Exxon Refinery in Ingleside, Texas. She spent her entire life in the Ingleside/Aransas Pass area, where she met the love of her life, Abe. He was able to give her a life that included her love of world travel, and they had many fun-loving experiences as they traveled the U.S. in their motor coach with friends and family. Before her children were born, she worked at First State Bank in Aransas Pass as a Teller. Grethel was an avid athlete all her life. She played softball and volleyball in High School; started a softball league in the mid 1940's; bowled on leagues for many years; was a member of Live Oak Country Club where she played golf weekly and made her first hole-in-one. She became an artist and loved to paint roses and seascapes. She hosted many family get-togethers at her home, which we all fondly remember. Her greatest inspiration was her love of our Lord, teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and being an active, vital part of First Baptist Church. She cherished the friendships she made throughout her life, and one of her greatest enjoyments was her weekly bridge and mahjong games.
Grethel was a loving wife, devoted mother and loved her grandchildren with a passion. The most important contribution Grethel gave her children was raising them in the Church where they learned that God loves us, He sent Christ to die for us, and all we have to do is accept this wonderful Gift and we will have eternal life. She loved her family and they will cherish her memory; children Kathleen (Dave) Ashwin and Ronnie (Nancy) Bedre; her grandchildren loved their "MeMe" and had the opportunity to spend quality time with her throughout their lives - Misty (William) Coulston, Wendi (Chris) Klein, Jason (Jennifer) Bedre, and Joshua (Lynne) Bedre; great grandchildren Jacob, Emily, Mason, Andrew, Rowan, Lauren, and Blake; and, sister De Alva (Bob) Fair and brother Elery (Romerica) Gallion.
Join us in honoring Grethel Gallion Bedre through a gift to the Kathy and David Ashwin Endowment for Medical Research. We thank you in advance for your gift or pledge to help our fund grow and keep her memory close to our hearts.
