UT Dentistry provides access to dental care for patients with cognitive and physical disabilities in the newly opened Phil & Karen Hunke Special Care Clinic at the Center for Oral Health Care & Research. The clinic is designed especially for those whose disabilities may prevent them from being treated in a conventional dental setting.

Opened in February 2024, this specialty clinic includes seven treatment rooms and five conscious sedation suites to accommodate the needs of adults and children.

This unique clinic is the first of its kind in an academic environment in South Texas. While providing excellent oral health care to patients, the practice will offer interdisciplinary educational opportunities for students and residents.

Area dentists can refer patients and their families and caregivers to receive the special care and attention that can be difficult to find.
