Dr. Darl E. “Van” Vander Ploeg was a dedicated physician and professor who taught hundreds of medical students, residents, and members of the military throughout his extensive career. He founded the Dermatology Division in 1973, formerly known as the Brady Green Hospital, and the residency program at The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio, when it welcomed its first resident class in 1975.
A special memorial fund dedicated to residents has been established to recognize his life-long commitment to educating future generations of dermatologists. Dr. Vander Ploeg’s legacy of excellence will continue through residents who benefit from his special namesake fund.
