Sam Barshop memorial

Sam Barshop, renowned businessman and founder of La Quinta Inn, Inc., was Vice Chair of the Board of Regent of The University of Texas System and an Emeritus Member of the UT Health San Antonio Development Board. Sam and his wife, Ann, were dedicated to higher education and medical research and established The Sam and Ann Barshop Institute for Longevity and Aging Studies at the UT Health San Antonio through a generous gift of $4 million. The Barshop Institute is recognized as one of the most successful research programs in aging in the world.

When Sam passed away on December 9, 2013, the Barshop family and friends came together with generous gifts to establish the Sam Barshop Memorial Endowment for Research in Aging at UT Health San Antonio. The Sam Barshop Memorial Endowment is dedicated to advancing scientific discovery in the biology of aging at the Barshop Institute for Longevity and Aging Studies.
