Last Man Standing Scholarship Endowment
The Dental School Scholarship Golf Tournament was started in 2005 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the School of Dentistry and, more importantly, to raise funds to support scholarships here in the school. Since that time, the proceeds from the golf tournament have totaled just over $87,000! The funds you have raised support two different scholarships, the School of Dentistry Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Last Man Standing Scholarship Endowment.
You may be wondering how this endowed scholarship got its name. At the first tournament, there were 80 players and they became the original members of the Last Man Standing competition. The last remaining participant of the original 80 will have the privilege of having the Last Man Standing Scholarship Endowment named for him. Out of those 80 players, there are only 29 left in the running!
This scholarship endowment grows every year and will hopefully reach $100,000 very soon. This means that up to four students each year can be awarded a $1,000 scholarship. And, since this is a permanent endowment, it will only continue to grow, making more funds available each year to award to our outstanding students.
If you have questions about this or any other scholarship or you would like to make a gift to support our School of Dentistry students, please contact Patrick O’Hara or call (210) 567-2575.
