Honoring a Visionary Leader
Dr. Glenn A. Halff
Dr. Glenn Halff joined The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio as Director of The Transplant Center in 1993 with an ambitious goal: to start the first program for liver transplantation in Central and South Texas. Within 5 years, his goal was realized, and the Center was performing more than 100 liver transplants each year, far exceeding expectations.
Thanks to the exceptional leadership Dr. Halff has provided, The Transplant Center is now recognized as a multidisciplinary Center of Clinical Excellence, and last year, this region’s first “living donor liver transplant program” became the 2nd largest program of its type in the country, providing new, leading edge life-saving options for our patients.
Over the past 20 years, Glenn has succeeded in building one of our nation’s finest comprehensive programs for liver, pediatric, and adult kidney transplantation. He is a nationally recognized leader and an accomplished surgeon for his patients, but he has also dedicated his time to the education, training and mentorship of the next generation of skilled surgeons and future leaders in transplantation who also emulate his kind, selfless and compassionate demeanor and bedside manner.
UT Health San Antonio and the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine are proud to have the opportunity to honor Glenn by establishing an endowment in his name – the Glenn Halff, M.D. Endowed Chair in Transplantation, that will support in perpetuity, the efforts of future transplant surgeons who reflect the gifted surgical skill and dedication to patients and their families for which he is recognized.
