
William O. Butler, internationally known Continuing Dental Education Director at UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry, was appointed director in 1994 and led the CE program until his retirement in 2017. His 27-year career in dental continuing education was focused on programs that were scientific based.
At the time of his retirement, he was the longest continous director in a dental school in the United States, having served four years at UMKC prior to San Antonio.
The William O. Butler Endowment for Dental Research will help support research projects for students and if beneficial, support other research funded areas. Financial assistance will also be available for travel expenses and registration fees at conferences where the research results will be presented. This endowment will also support the Annual School of Dentistry Science Symposium.
William Oliver Butler received his B.S. in 1972 and his M.S. in 1974. Both degrees were awarded by Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. Bill Butler entered the dental field as Director at the University of Missouri - Kansas City School of Dentistry in November 1990. At the time of hiring, Bill was one of the first non-dental degree, non- Ph.D. director at a major U.S. dental school.
