We met the first day of our first year of Dental School. Marshall proposed by presenting me with a box of Valentine’s Day Candies and insisted that I eat a particular one. As any good former dental hygienist and future dentist would say, I responded with: “Oh thank you, but I can’t eat one now, I just brushed my teeth!”
After much insistence I accepted the candy----which to my great surprise had an engagement ring in it! We were married the summer after our 2nd year of dental school and just celebrated 30 years together.
The UT Health Science Center San Antonio will always have a special place in our hearts and now will be home to our daughter, Rita Janae as she enters the dental school in the fall of 2017.
Marshall and Mary Rita Warren
Class of 1988
It was the summer of 1979 when I matriculated with the incoming medical school class to graduate four years later in 1983. It was at a new student welcome that I met my fellow classmate Allyson Arnett. She caught my eye immediately and as school began it was apparent that she would be one of the top students in the class. It was in my best interest academically and otherwise to stick close to her.
As time progressed, we sat with one another in class, had lunch by the fountain and spent time together outside of medical school. One thing led to another and we were married between our second and third years of medical school. As newlyweds starting our third year rotations it was a challenging time but we made it through!
Now some 35 plus years later, we have three children, a daughter-in-law, a son-in-law and three grandchildren. I have been in practice (pathology) in Wichita Falls for nearly thirty years now. We have been blessed beyond our wildest dreams.
Thank you UT Health Science Center San Antonio for bringing us together and forming the seed for our future family!
