For more than 30 years, William C. “Bill” Head, MD, of Frisco, Texas, has supported UT Health San Antonio. Following the massacre of 19 students and two teachers on May 24, 2022, at Robb Elementary School, Dr. Head who has personal connections to South Texas was prompted to respond by establishing the Uvalde Memorial Nursing Scholarship.
Dr. Head, who retired as an orthopedic surgeon with the Texas Center for Joint Replacement in Plano, is giving a total of $50,000 to establish the Uvalde Memorial Nursing Scholarship, a current use scholarship to support nursing students who graduate from Uvalde High School. Dr. Head’s wish is to support students seeking a nursing education with hopes they will contribute to health care in the region.
The first scholarship will be presented for the fall 2023 semester. Additional gifts to the Uvalde Memorial Nursing Scholarship will allow more Uvalde High School graduates to receive financial support to attain their nursing education at UT Health San Antonio. The scholarship will be awarded at the School of Nursing Dean’s discretion with input from the scholarship selection committee.
