1974 Society Program FAQ
What is the 1974 Society?
The 1974 Society, honoring the development of the Cancer Center in 1974 and the incredible efforts of past volunteers, will support our mission to decrease the burden of cancer in San Antonio, South Texas, and beyond. Together, we will enhance our four pillars of comprehensive cancer care: research, education, clinical care, and community support.
Why did we make the change from the Cancer Cabinet to the 1974 Society?
The former Cancer Center Cabinet primarily supported the Institute for Drug Development for the Mays Cancer Center. The newly formed 1974 Society will expand and diversify our impact to cancer care initiatives across UT Health San Antonio.
What is the impact of the 1974 Society?
Funds from the 1974 Society may support any of our cancer care programs, including, but not limited to:
- Advancing groundbreaking cancer research
- Funding leading-edge technology
- Developing phase I clinical drug trials
- Expanding critical patient care
- Services in our communities
- Training and education of staff
When will memberships renew?
The 1974 Society is a rolling 12-month membership program that renews annually the same month as the previous qualifying membership gift date.
Can a donor make a gift to any cancer program related fund?
Only annual gifts of $1,500 or more to the 1974 Society fund qualify for membership. This fund supports the greatest needs of UT Health San Antonio's cancer care programs.
What are the benefits?
Benefits for this membership program start at the $1,500 annual gift level. Some of these benefits include invitations to events, early access to information, and exclusive updates from top leadership.
