The group’s interests focus on the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes, including the etiology of insulin resistance and beta cell failure, the molecular links between insulin resistance and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, definition of genes responsible for type 2 diabetes in Mexican Americans, beta cell preservation, and the development of novel therapies for the treatment of diabetes mellitus.
