Alumni Giving

The School of Medicine is entering an exciting new era of growth focused on delivering world-class medical education, cutting-edge research, compassionate clinical care and community outreach. The Alumni Association has embarked upon two fundraising initiatives to support the school’s efforts:

  • Alumni Class Endowed Scholarships
  • Student Education Enhancement Fund
Alumni Class Endowed Scholarships
In 2010, the Alumni Association introduced a new endowed scholarship giving program to help the School of Medicine continue to recruit the best and brightest medical students throughout the nation and around the world. The Alumni Class Endowed Scholarship Program gives alumni the chance to establish named scholarships in honor of their graduating classes. In 2010, we established the Class of 1973 Endowed Scholarship and the Class of 2010 Endowed Scholarship. These scholarships will be awarded to medical students beginning in 2011.

Student Education Enhancement Fund
In 2009, the Alumni Association launched a five-year $1.2 million alumni campaign to create the Student Education Enhancement Fund. In the first year of this initiative, we raised $186,000 through gifts and pledges from 63 alumni and friends of the school. This campaign will allow us to transform the educational experience for our medical students through the following activities:

  1. Creation of a new 1,500-square-foot student lounge for club meetings, group study sessions, informal relaxation and recreation, and student-alumni receptions. (The Alumni Association Student Lounge opened in August 2010.).
  2. Increased opportunities for students to participate in summer research projects, structured community service programs, and medical outreach trips throughout Texas and the world.
  3. Academic programs and capital projects that directly impact students’ education, such as expanded tutoring services and enhancements to the H-E-B Clinical Skills Center.

Donor Recognition
We will recognize all donors to these two alumni giving programs with personalized nameplates on plaques in the new Alumni Association Student Lounge. In addition, we will list the names of all donors on the Alumni Association website and in an upcoming issue of FUTURE magazine
